What Goes Down Must Come Up

June 28: Day 11.

47 Miles

Pumphouse Rec Area to Stagecoach State Park

90+ degrees

Climbing out of the Colorado river valley was one tough bugger. Typically when we’ve spent the greater part of the day climbing we are rewarded with fast, mile melting descents. Today after climbing we traversed 20 miles of rolling hills with short, steep descents and equally steep ascents. Marry that with 90+ degree temps and it’s a recipe for a mood killer. Mentally and physically I tanked. Yet, what goes down must come up.

When we finally arrived at the stagecoach campground my nephew gave me a big hug and told me all about his day biking. Swimming in the cool waters of the reservoir while watching my nephew and father-in-law build a sand castle my heart filled with gratitude. Life isn’t just good, it’s grand.

Best support crew around.
